Huntington is one of the best places to run in NE Indiana IMHO. There is a real tradition of accomplished runners from the area as well. Definitely has a lot more hills than nearby Fort Wayne if you're looking for that.
Good to know about running in Huntington
Most drivers are quite courteous but I unfortunately have had multiple cars crowd me on the shoulder especially in the country. Speed limits are high out there so be careful! I have come across dogs off leash on country properties who approach especially early in the morning. Make sure to stop running if they come towards you.
Central runs in Huntington
Traffic in town is relatively light most times of day so side streets are usually good. Avoid Jefferson due to high traffic. State street from the courthouse east out of town will get you some good miles!
Scenic runs in Huntington
Really all of the farmland surrounding the city is beautiful. River road towards Andrews is pretty albeit a little loud from Highway 24. South and East of Huntington have some great areas too that are low in vehicular traffic. Running atop the Roush reservoir dam on Highway 5 is cool too just watch out for fast cars.
Best places for workouts in Huntington
I've found the best hills to be outside of town. There's a good one near the John Deere dealership and another on Salamonie near Waterworks. Country roads are good for intervals, you'll just need to keep track of distances yourself since there's no mile markers.
